SEMI: Global semiconductor materials market revenue grows by 3.8% in 2024, with mainland China ranking second

The latest data from the Semiconductor Industry Institute (SEMI) shows that the global semiconductor materials market revenue will increase by 3.8% to $67.5 billion in 2024.

SEMI points out that the overall recovery of the semiconductor market, as well as the growing demand for advanced materials in high-performance computing and high bandwidth memory manufacturing, will support the growth of material revenue in 2024.

Among them, the revenue from wafer manufacturing materials increased by 3.3%, reaching 42.9 billion US dollars; The revenue from packaging materials increased by 4.7%, reaching 24.6 billion US dollars. Except for silicon and silicon on insulator (SOI), all semiconductor material segments achieved year-on-year growth. Due to the continuous digestion of excess inventory in the industry, the demand for silicon in 2024 (especially in the trailing edge segment market) remains weak, resulting in a 7.1% decrease in silicon revenue in 2024.

By region, in 2024, Taiwan, China will become the world's largest consumer of semiconductor materials with a revenue of US $20.1 billion for 15 consecutive years. Chinese Mainland continued to achieve year-on-year growth with revenue of US $13.5 billion, ranking second in 2024; South Korea ranks third with a revenue of 10.5 billion US dollars. Except for Japan, all regions achieved growth in 2024.
