Graphics card manufacturers MSI and Gigabyte urgently ship to the United States in response to Trump's tariffs

Leading gaming PC manufacturers MSI and Gigabyte are racing against time to ship more products to the United States, including Nvidia's new RTX 5090 graphics card, before President Trump raises tariffs next month. MSI Chairman Xu Xiang stated that the company had been stockpiling inventory for the US market prior to the escalation of the tariff war in April. However, due to the latest product not being launched until around April, there was very little they could do before.

Taking Nvidia's newly launched graphics cards as an example, no matter how many we ship to the United States, they will be sold out immediately, making it difficult to establish inventory there. We are racing against time to produce and ship as many as possible, "Xu Xiang told reporters after the company's annual shareholder meeting on Tuesday. No one knows what tariffs will happen after July 9th. This is the biggest uncertainty for the rest of this year

MSI Technology is building a new server, graphics card, desktop computer and notebook computer manufacturing factory in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, China, China, which is planned to be put into use in 2027. The company is also renovating a newly leased factory in California to serve as a warehouse and assembly location for its emerging artificial intelligence server business, as well as desktop computers and graphics cards that will be put into use next quarter.

Ye Peicheng, Chairman of Gigabyte Technology, also holds a similar view as MSI Technology. He stated that Gigabyte Technology's monthly revenue in May reached a historic high, mainly due to the uncertainty of tariffs leading to earlier than expected product shipment times.

After the annual shareholder meeting of Gigabyte, Ye Peicheng told reporters, "Last month we received some urgent orders, which boosted our sales, and these orders were mainly affected by tariff issues." Chairman Ye Peicheng added that the tariff war and unpredictable policies of the White House have brought uncertainty to the technology industry, especially for export-oriented technology companies.

Similar to MSI, Gigabyte is also accelerating the construction of a new factory in California to support its thriving AI server business.

The United States is the core gaming market for MSI and Gigabyte, accounting for approximately 20% of their total sales. The European market accounts for over 30% of MSI's total sales, while it accounts for nearly 30% of Gigabyte's. Both companies work closely with NVIDIA to produce gaming graphics cards and own their own branded gaming PCs.

Washington and Beijing have agreed to a 90 day "truce" to temporarily reduce tariffs between the two countries: currently, tariffs on goods imported from Chinese Mainland to the United States are 30%, up from 145% previously; The tariff on US goods imported to China is 10%, previously 125%. The ceasefire will expire on July 9th, but trade representatives from both sides are meeting in London this week to seek a compromise.
