Saudi Arabia's newly established artificial intelligence (AI) investment company Humain is partnering with American chip manufacturer AMD to invest $10 billion in building AI infrastructure over the next five years.
The statement stated that Humain will be responsible for the development of data centers, sustainable power systems, and global fiber optic connections, while AMD will provide chips and software. Both parties stated that the project will construct a data center that extends from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United States.
Like its larger competitor Nvidia, AMD is trying to expand its customer base for AI accelerators (chips used to develop AI software). At present, the market is dominated by a few data center operators, including Microsoft and Amazon.
Attracting national sovereignty AI is a key part of finding new customers. But the statement did not specify whether AMD was investing in the project out of its own pocket or just acting as a supplier.
AMD CEO Su Zifeng stated in a statement, "Our investment in Humain is an important milestone in advancing global AI infrastructure construction. We will work together to build an AI platform with global influence, whose performance, openness, and coverage will reach unprecedented levels. ”
In the rapidly growing accelerator chip market, AMD ranks far behind Nvidia, but is facing stricter regulation in the United States. The United States has implemented controls on the export destinations of such products to prevent these technologies from falling into the hands of countries such as China.
Nvidia also plans to provide semiconductors to Humain as part of the construction of a new AI joint venture data center. This cooperation was announced at the Saudi American Investment Forum during US President Donald Trump's visit to Riyadh.
According to insiders, the Trump administration is preparing to announce an agreement that will allow Saudi Arabia to gain more access to advanced semiconductors, paving the way for Gulf countries to expand their data center capacity.
